Scripture Reading: Hebrew 6:1-6

Many things seem impossible to man because of the nature of man. It all depends on man’s disposition and attitude towards his past, present and future life. If your future must be positive, then your past should not dictate your future. Is there any one who has no past? Without a past, there can be no present and future. Your past may have been a misguided knowledge of who Christ is or characterized by lack of faith in him and direct departure from the truth of the gospel. Dear friend, do not be worried. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses. Scripture records that Jesus fell three times with the cross and he rose again three times and staggered on.

Verses 4-6 of our scriptural reference today states as follows “For how can those who abandon their faith be brought back to repent again? They were once in God’s light; they tasted heaven’s gift and received their share of the Holy Spirit; they felt the powers of the coming age, and then abandoned their faith! It is impossible to bring them back to repent again, because they are again crucifying the son of God and exposing Him to public shame.” The life of a Christian is a life of falling into sin and rising again . The power to rise again comes from the Holy Spirit who sustains that life of faith. Some years ago, a woman told me that she left her marriage on three occasions because she lost faith in her husband and on each occasion the spirit ministered to her to return to her marriage and she did. Today (at the time of our discussion) she said, “I have discovered that failure or setback is a step to a higher level; I have repented and have fully settled in marriage.” How can you be brought back to repentance again if you had abandoned your faith. It seems impossible to repent and for such people to come back, but we should not overlook the mercy and loving heart of God. The LORD is always searching for the lost sheep of the house of Israel. The Lord searches for you in failure and weakness. His searchlight beams on you to locate you. You arc dear to Him. Hear Job as he speaks to those who may think that all hope is lost on them: “There is hope for a tree that has been cut down; it can come back to life and sprout. Even though its roots grow old, and its stump dies in the ground, with water it will sprout like a young plant”. (Job 14:7-9).

Look back from your past and look forward to where you are going and call on the Lord for help. No matter what your past has been, no matter how badly you have departed from the faith, you can start anew. Only be determined. The time to fall away from the faith is past and the time to repent and come back is now. Believe that with God all things are possible. Even though our sins and unfaithfulness strip and crucify Jesus again, every day of our lives, he continuously opens the door of mercy and forgiveness to us. God is God of reconciliation and restoration. Once you repent, and reconcile with the Lord he would restore you. There is joy in heaven for every soul that repents and returns to the Lord. One way you can repent again and come back to faith is to ask for help from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is your helper; and He is by you to help you. So call upon him and you will experience a marvelous change in your life. You also need to check who your friends are. Evil association corrupts godly minds. Ask the Holy Spirit to choose your friends for you. Let your friends be friends of Jesus. Finally, pray to have the thirst for prayer and the study of the word of God regularly. If you persist in all these, you will experience a sharp improvement in your faith life.

Prayer Points:

  1. You have wandered away and fallen out of faith for long. Ask the Lord for forgiveness for the length of time you have denied and rejected him.
  2. Your desire is to return back to the Lord.

Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you back to the waiting arms of the Lord.

  1. Pray for strength and grace to put the past behind you and look forward to a new beginning.
  2. Healing and restoration come from the Lord. In sincerity of heart, ask the Lord to heal and restore you.
  3. Tell the Lord to disperse your friends and associates and choose new and godly friends for you.
  4. Thank and praise the Lord for what he is about to do in your life.
  5. Pray for those whose faith has failed them but desire earnestly to repent and come back to the Lord.
