Scripture Reading: Zechariah 3:1-7
Beloved in Christ, one thing that is certain is that Satan cannot convict any man who is holy and lives the life of righteousness; he has no access to destroy any one who walks aright with God. Every child of God needs always to know that the mission of Satan is to destroy and waste whatever is good. He wants to turn all that is useful to become useless; causing pain to humanity. Of course, this is what gives him joy. Today, the good Lord wants us to be very sensitive about this fact, that anytime we migrate from the abode of godliness to ungodliness, we open ourselves to Satan’s onslaught. We hand over to him a legal mandate to walk into our lives, possess it and destroy as much as he wants. This is why a very vibrant child of God suddenly starts giving excuses why he cannot be part of church activities. The act of praying becomes difficult and uninteresting. He may start avoiding his Christian friends and rather prefers the fellowship of non-believers who cannot lead him back to Christ. Indecent, wicked and lustful thoughts flood his mind; and very vulgar, obscene and wicked words become common with him.
Beloved in Christ, are there certain things you abhorred as evil in the past, or have given up, because you have fellowship with Jesus; suddenly,
you find yourself doing those things, Beware, the dew of Satan is already falling on you. Know this secret and make effort not to be deceived. For the scripture advices, “Keep sober and alert, because your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) Once the wall of holiness is broken, Satan can trample your life and destroy it. Samson broke the hedge of holiness and the enemy trampled upon his life. His end was tragic, his eyes were plucked out and he became a mockery to the Philistine.
Sirach 21:1-3 admonishes us thus: “Have you sinned, my son? Don’t do it again, and pray for forgiveness for what you have already done. Avoid sin as if it were a snake. If you get too near, it will sink its teeth into your soul like a lion, and destroy you. Every lawless act lives an incurable wound, like one left by a double-edged sword.”
