Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:29

God has extended an invitation to all men to share in His divinity; in His image and likeness; God created man. This is to the extent that man shares in the creation activity of God who has invited mankind to take charge of all in the created order. Man stands out in a unique way among all created things, In humanity one finds the summit of life and creation. In His nature, God is perfect and He created a world that is good. If truly human beings share in the nature of God, they should possess a reasonable degree of perfection by the very nature of sharing in the person and divinity of God. “You must be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect” (Matt. 5:46). But we cannot be perfect as God if we do not know Him and understand His ways. One sure way of knowing God is by understanding His words in the Holy Scripture. Most times our problem in relating with God is because we lack a good knowledge of His words as contained in the Scripture and this is why St. Jerome rightly says, ‘ignorance of the word of God is the ignorance of Christ”. We cannot boast of knowing God when we do not know His words.

Wisdom is profitable for direction and it is the safety we have against falling into error. The kind of wisdom that can keep us from error has a singular fountain- the word of God. which frees us from the mistakes of life and the errors of ignorance. Today, the Lord tell the Sadducees “You do not know the scriptures, that is why you err”. The knowledge of the Scripture is a feat God desires all to achieve. In 1 Tim 2:4, the Bible says that God desires all men to come to the knowledge of the truth. The truth is the word of God. Such is the desire of God. Why does God desire our knowledge of the Scripture? We are always wrong in actions, thoughts and words when we do not know the Scripture. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path.” (Psa. 119:105). God’s word contains the spiritual principles that will help you avoid many sorrows, pitfalls and tragedies as a result of wrong decisions and choices.
