Scripture Reading: 1 John 5:1-5

Verse 5 of our scripture reading today says, “Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the son of God.” Victory of God’s children over the world does not come by the way. It does not come by sheer strength and power. Many Christians loose battle against principalities and powers in high places because they fight with their arm of flesh and expect to win victory over their adversaries. Remember that the God you serve is a victorious God and whoever calls upon him in faith on the day of trouble can never fail.  Our sister and widow, a hero of faith, talked in boldness of faith to Holofernes in his camp, “… I cannot eat your food, she said, for I would be breaking the laws of my God. I will eat only what I have brought with me. But what you will do when your food and wine are gone, Holofernes asked. Where will we get more food for you? There are no Israelites here in our camp. Sir, Judith answered, as surely as you live, I have more than enough food to last until the Lord has used me to carry out his plan.” (Judith 12:2-4). As the Lord give victory to Judith, He blotted out the senses of  Holofernes  and  He worked  in the victory path of Judith.  Holofernes could not ask Judith the plans of her God that brought her to his camp.

Today, dear User of Daily Strength, your foes and attackers will work in your favour to hasten your victory. The world may rise against you; kingdoms may gather against you to eat up your flesh. In all this, the Lord will raise a standard against them. Hear verse 4 of our scripture reference, “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” This means that no matter the forces and strength of them that gather against you, through your faith, you will surely be victorious over them. Dear friends and soldiers of Christ if you are asked, what armour are you wearing now? Apostle Paul answered in these words, “So put on God’s armour now! Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy’s attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground.” Therefore, it is your faith that wins your victory. The battle against your foes is beyond the physical realm so you are called to put on the whole armour of God for your victory. Listen to this. One night at about 3.00am in the month of June 2014 after praying for my daughter  who was seriously sick I slept off on the  sitting room chair as soon as  I said  in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of  the Holy Spirit, Amen, to end the prayers. I slept off and saw myself in a dream strolling down to my house with a friend I have been unable to identify. Close to my house, two unidentified men suddenly appeared some nine meters away in front of us. I heard some gun shots from their direction and a cloud of smoke close to my waist. My friend said to me that I have been shot at and looking on the ground he picked up about six bullets by my feet and asked: “I hope you are not hurt?” I replied, “No” and immediately I woke up and it was 3.00am. Dear friend, my protection was not by my power and strength but by the name of the Lord Jesus who has shielded me by my faith in Him and hiding in Him and Him in God. Faith makes you to do the unimaginable. Therefore be strong in the Lord and the power of his might. Through faith:

  • We are all God’s sons and daughters in union with Christ (Gal. 3:26).
  • Abraham obeyed God’s call and set out for a country promised to him and his descendants (Heb. 11:8).
  • Abraham, when tested, offered up Isaac (Heb. 11:17).
  • The Israelites crossed the Red Sea as if on dry land (He.11:29).
  • The walls of Jericho fell down when the Israelites marched round it seven days (Heb. 11:30).
  • We won victory over the world (1 John 5:4).

Dear reader of Daily Strength, let your faith endure for he that shall overcome, shall overcome by faith. Your faith is your victory.
