Scripture Reading: Psalm: 119:47-72
A story was told of a woman from Chicago who was said to have died of starvation. She was found dead in her apartment due to malnutrition, which resulted in some health challenges such as loss of sight and memory. At her death, she was found to possess the following as her belongings. They found the equivalent of ₤102,000 in uncashable cheques, ₤240,000 in jewels and ₤31,000 in antiques. In fact, she had an estate worth ₤492,000, yet she was said to have died of malnutrition. This is unbelievable, but it is true. This woman was said to have prepared a will leaving these assets to friends and family members. Unfortunately, she failed to deposit the will with any court and therefore was not executed. This means that her friends and family members were unaware of these massive inheritance freely given to them by the woman. Beloved in Christ, today the Holy Spirit wants us to learn a vital lesson from the actions of this woman from Chicago.
When Jesus Christ died and returned to his Father in heaven, He left a will; and ‘your name is in it’. The copy of the Will can be found and accessible to as many as want it. The will that our Saviour filed for us is found in His Word. Hear St. Paul writing to the Romans, “Now if we are children, then we are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” (Rom. 8:17)
Paul reminds us that a victorious life in the Spirit is not any easy path. Jesus suffered, and we who follow Him will suffer. Once this truth is fully accepted and forms the foundation of our Christian faith, then reading theBible will no longer be an issue. So instead of spending precious time on unnecessary leisure, day and night shall be gainfully utilized to go through Jesus’ will for everybody. When you start spending quality time studying the scripture, the most likely consequence shall be all round prosperity. This is the reason why David said in Psalm 119:47, “For I delight in your commands because I love them.” In 2 Peter 1:3-4 the Scripture says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” So unlike the woman in our story today, Jesus filed His will for all children of God in the Holy Bible and calls all to start sharing of His Father’s inheritance from it.
